ACTIVE ROPE ACCESSMaintenance & Inspection Abseilers

Offshore and marine rope access

Inspection, NDT, blasting and coating, welding and maintenance on platforms, FPSOs, rigs, LNG facilities, jetties and vessels off South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique.

Rope access technicians working on the outside wall of a large steel tank

Where we work offshore and on the coast

  • Fixed platforms and topsides
  • FPSO, FLNG and floating storage units
  • Drilling rigs in port and at sea
  • LNG and gas processing plants on the coast
  • Jetties, wharves, quay cranes and ship loaders
  • Single-buoy moorings and oil terminals
  • Vessel hulls, tanks and cargo holds

What we do

  • Splash zone and structural inspection, with photos and reports
  • NDT: ultrasonic thickness, visual and magnetic particle testing
  • Abrasive blasting and coating repair on topsides, legs and hulls
  • Flare stack, crane boom and derrick inspection and repair
  • Welding and steel repair at height
  • Cleaning of tanks, silos and confined spaces
  • Dropped-object surveys and securing
  • Installing and certifying lifelines and anchor points

Why rope access offshore

  • Far fewer people on board than a scaffold crew, so lower bed-space and transfer costs
  • No scaffold to build, inspect and strip, so work starts sooner
  • Work goes on around live operations, with less disruption to production
  • Each technician works on two independent ropes, with a supervisor and rescue plan on every job

Our offshore and marine teams use the same rope access methods, equipment and safety system as our onshore work. That includes a site-specific safety file compiled to the operator’s requirements before mobilisation.
