Welding and boilermaking on rope access

When a duct, chute or steel structure needs welding high above the ground, building scaffolding can take longer than the repair. Active Rope Access puts welders and boilermakers on ropes to reach the defect directly and fix it in place.

Active Rope Access: Welding and boilermaking on rope access

Welding work we do at height

  • Leak repairs on ducting and stacks, including welding beneath linings
  • Plate patching and wear-plate replacement
  • Structural steel repairs and bracket installation
  • Chute, hopper and cyclone repairs
  • Bolting, cutting and fabrication fitted on site

How we keep hot work safe on ropes

  • Fire-resistant ropes and protection at the anchor and work point
  • Hot work permits and fire watch on every job
  • Gas testing in enclosed spaces
  • A dedicated rescue plan for welding at height

Welding on ropes shortens shutdowns and cuts access costs, especially on tall plant where scaffolding would take days to put up.

Leaking ducting was repaired by welding beneath the lining, with the welders working entirely on rope access.

Questions

Can you weld while hanging on ropes?

Yes. Our welders work from rope access systems with fire-resistant protection and a fire watch, under a hot work permit.

What kind of welding do you do on ropes?

Repairs to ducting, stacks, chutes, hoppers, cyclones and structural steel, including plate patching and bracket installation.

Is it faster than scaffolding?

Usually. A rope access team can be rigged and welding on the same day, where scaffolding on tall plant can take several days.
